Biography

Mahdi Shkoukani, MD is a double board-certified surgeon in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery as well as Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Shkoukani is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Chief of Craniofacial surgery. Dr. Shkoukani received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine with high distinction.  He then completed a general surgery internship and residency in Otolaryngology at Wayne State University.  Following residency, he completed a craniomaxillofacial and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan.

His clinical interest is focused
 at treating cranial/skull base pathology, congenital craniofacial anomalies, management of cutaneous malignancies as well 
as the functional and reconstructive aspects of facial plastic surgery.  Dr Shkoukani's research interest is in skull base surgery and craniofacial trauma.  He has numerous publications in the field and has given lectures at local and national scientific meetings.  He is the medical student Director in the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.



Dr. Shkoukani serves on several committees at the level of the Wayne State University School of Medicine and at the national level, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.  He is also a reviewer for the journal Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, which is the journal for the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery.
